Dispute Resolution and Mediation Service
/Dispute Resolution and Mediation Service in York
Arguments and disputes with others are often a major cause of anxiety, depression and general unhappiness for many people. Conflicts like these can arise anywhere and at any time including work, home, social life or even in our neighbourhood. As a result, feelings can run high, causing ongoing emotional pain, and disrupt our ability to meet our own needs. Whilst many conflicts first become apparent through short term crisis the real damage can last much longer with relationships ruined and, if unresolved, eventually harm physical and mental health
However, many conflicts can be addressed and settled at earlier stages and therefore, significantly reduce the potential for lasting negative damage with the right kind of support. Mediation has emerged over recent years as a very effective alternative method for resolving disputes. Its purpose is to reduce the personal stress of conflict by helping parties to identify and meet their emotional needs in a more structured way, in the context of the dispute, and thereby create new opportunities and options to forge a lasting resolution with the other person.
In mediation the parties are facilitated by an independent, impartial mediator to meet in a staged approach to exploring, then sifting and sorting both shared interests and differences with the aim of reaching agreement. Often the final agreement may be in the form of a written document.
We have in the York HG Wellbeing Centre the specialist mediation skills, experience and facilities to provide a range of conflict resolution services to address intergenerational and family relationship disputes as well as workplace conflicts.
